His Holiness The Dalai Lama gave public teachings at the Temple here in Mcleodganj, Dharamsala on 7, 8 and 9 June.

I was blessed to be in his presence for the teachings and would like to share a few of the quotes I managed to scribble down from the rather broken English translation (they are not verbatim).

“First develop affection, love and kindness. This is how you develop compassion.”

“What makes you and all other sentient beings the same is the desire to experience ¬†happiness and not suffering. Therefore compassion is required for all sentient beings.”

“We must have compassion not only for our near and dear, but also for our adversaries.”

“There is no sentient being that has not been your friend or relative in a past life.”

“Engage only in actions that elevate others from suffering.”

“Reduce anger, attachment, aversion and all other negative emotions if you wish to gain peace of mind.”

“Develop wisdom that realises Selflessness.”
